Makro has evolved in the retail space from a stalwart warehouse chain to now being able to offer customers a convenient online shopping hub. Makro offers food, the latest electronics, houseware, camping and outdoor equipment and even liquor. A total of 19 Makro stores trade in South Africa, bringing convenience and affordability to local households and businesses. With the e-commerce addition to our offering, customers can now enjoy Makro’s deals and value-added services across a broader reach of locations.

Makro extensive online shopping range includes the majority of items you would expect to find in a Makro store and carries with it the same ethos we have always maintained. We operate under a low cost / low margin trading philosophy, enabling us to deliver quality merchandise at competitive prices.

Makro has evolved immensely since the opening of our first store in 1971 in Germiston. This was also a milestone for South Africa, as it became the first cash-and-carry store in the country making use of top-end technology for stock and sales tracking.

Fast tracking to 2011, to the merger between Massmart and Walmart – the US based retail company operating all over the world, and now in South Africa too. This merger has expanded the offering we extend to our shoppers, allowing you to enjoy more variety and brands at even more competitive prices.

Game Overview

Game is Africa’s largest discount retailer of predominantly general merchandise and non-perishable groceries for home, leisure and business use.

Game is a subsidiary of the JSE listed, Massmart Holdings. Massmart is Africa’s third largest distributor of consumer goods, the leading retailer of general merchandise, liquor and home improvement equipment and supplies, and the leading wholesaler of basic foods.

The first GAME store opened in Durban, South Africa, in 1970. It was born out of the belief by its founders that shopping had become a tedious and boring pastime. They wanted to create a fun shopping environment and so conceptualized retailing as a game. The signature shocking pink has still prevailed to this day.

Game operate out of 110 stores in 12 African countries.
