NEDBANK Overview

Nedbank which office based in Johannesburg is one of the largest banks in South Africa. It is one of the newest bank to be incorporated with a market capitalization of ZAR:89.6 billion (approximately US$9 billion).

Nederlandsche Bank en Credietvereeniging voor Zuid-Afrika (“Dutch Bank and Credit Union for South Africa”) as its first name has a long and distinguished history that spans over a century. The bank was originally founded in 1888 in Amsterdam, same year when the bank opens an office in Pretoria, South African Republic. In 1903 the company was renamed to Nederlandsche Bank voor Zuid-Afrika (“Dutch Bank for South Africa”). In 1906, the bank expanded and an office in London was opened. The bank split in 1951, renaming their South African part into the Nederlandse Bank in Suid-Afrika Beperk/Netherlands Bank of South Africa Limited.

Nedbank Group is the holding company of all Nedbank’s businesses, subsidiaries and affiliates. The bank has earned the reputation of being a leader in SA sponsorship marketing, based on innovative partnerships and the recognition for a strong social dimension to sponsorship.

FNB Overview

FNB Was formed in Grahamstown in 1838, the oldest bank in South Africa. FNB operates as a division of FirstRand Bank Limited.

The history of FNB stands particularly in two things: First, which are the story of survival in South Africa that capture different circumstances and have posed many great challenges. Second, the story of people that always been firmly influenced by the needs of the people they serve.

A landmark development in FNB’s history took place in 1998 when the financial services interests of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings and Anglo American were merged to form FirstRand Limited. In the process, FNB was delisted from the JSE on 22 May 1998 to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of FirstRand, which was listed on the JSE on 25 May 1998. On 30 June 1999, the banking interests of FirstRand formally merged into a single entity to form FirstRand Bank. FNB, WesBank and RMB now trade as divisions of FirstRand Bank.

FNB’s growth story and serve as its inspiration to continue to innovate, improve, and reach out beyond its African’s customers.
